This event is a fund-raiser by the MEDINA LAKE BETTERMENT ASSOCIATION, INC., a non-profit civic organization staffed entirely by Volunteers. The festival is the original CAJUN FESTIVAL AND GREAT GUMBO COOK-OFF in Texas and attracts thousands of visitors each year. It remains unique in its ability to bring the food, music and culture of Louisiana into the heart of Texas.
CUISINE
The Cajun Festival has built its reputation for featuring an incredible array of Cajun delicacies authentically prepared by volunteer cooks. No expense or effort is spared in the preparation, even to importing boudin from Louisiana and fish fry spices from New Orleans.
Food items include Boudin, Crawfish Pies and Cajun Meat Pies, Sausage and Ham Jambalaya, Crawfish Etouffée, Crawfish Sausage, Red Beans and Rice, Cajun Popcorn Shrimp, Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce and Pecan Pralines and Pecan Tarts all prepared on site.
We also offer such Texas favorites as Buzzy's famous Barbecued Chicken Breast and Barbecued Shrimp on a Stick, Kiolbassa Sausage on a Stick, Catfish fried in Cajun spices, and corn on the cob. Beer, wine margaritas, tea, soft drinks, and bottle water are available.
ENTERTAINMENT
The Cajun Festival proudly presents a superb line-up of musicians. For your enjoyment the festival features two separate stage areas, the Fais-Do-Do & the Gazebo Stage.
Entertainment on the Fais-Do-Do Stage starts with the Band-Aids Jazz Band. This group opens the festival with a spirited New Orleans/Dixieland flavor to our festival and second-line dancing. Big-name Louisiana Cajun bands will perform: Don Fontenot and Cajun Joe Douglas will play into the afternoon and evening.
Entertainment on the Gazebo Stage will include Rodney Thibodeaux & Tout les Soir and Jean Pierre and the Zydeco Angels.
CAJUN HERITAGE AND HISTORY
Learn about the fascinating heritage of the Cajun culture, folklore, music and food with interviews and demonstrations at the Gazebo Stage with Rodney Thibodeaux & Tout les Soir.
